Dr. Lailah Kara-Newton
Dr Lailah was awarded her MBBS medical degree with Distinction from Barts and the London Medical School and an additional Bachelors degree in Global Public Health. As a Hospital Doctor in the NHS she has experience across medical and surgical specialties including Breast Surgery, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has specialized in Obstetrics and Gynaecology over the last 4 years working in varied district hospitals around London and Kent.
Dr Lailah has a particular interest in disparities in healthcare amongst people of colour and disadvantaged population groups.
With a special interest in Women’s Health she has published research in an international medical journal in conjunction with the World Health Organisation. This was to evaluate the efficacy of point of care testing for antenatal syphilis in resource poor settings, with the aim of improving access and equity in antenatal care.
She has presented research at the Royal
College of obstetricians and gynaecologists which studied the perceptions of the community in East London towards investigations following stillbirth, a community which is disproportionately affected by stillbirth compared to the national average. She has also presented case studies at the European Early Pregnancy Conference and has been focused more recently on research into poor maternal outcomes for black and brown women.
Dr Lailah has a successful medical wellness clinic located in Essex. Dr Lailah employs three staff members and continues to grow the business turning over 6 figures.
